Multimodal Mobility HUBs in Rudersdal – Greater Copenhagen: Advancing Sustainable Transport Solutions 150 150 Gemini

On August 22, 2024, the first mobility HUB was introduced in Rudersdal, followed by the launch of another HUB at DTU Science Park which is the largest and leading deep tech community in Denmar. In Rudersal will be more than 6 HUBs tested HUBs featured with 200 shared e-bikes and 32 shared cars, enabling residents and visitors to conveniently access these sustainable transport options. By strategically placing the HUBs in high-demand areas like Nærum Station, Vedbæk Station, and Birkerød City Centre, the project aims to connect people with efficient transit solutions. Furthermore, the HUBs extend beyond Rudersdal Municipality, with additional locations in Lyngby and the DTU Campus, ensuring connectivity with the Copenhagen Letbane light rail system.

The placement of the HUBs was determined based on input from local stakeholders, combined with demographic and public transportation data, ensuring that they serve areas with the highest potential for reducing car dependency. For example, in Birkerød and Holte stations, only bike-sharing options were offered to enhance accessibility to the local rail network.

Coordination and Performance Indicators

In collaboration with the shared mobility operators KINTO Share, TIER-DOTT, and GreenMobility, bi-weekly coordination meetings are held to monitor and fine-tune the implementation of the mobility HUBs. Key performance indicators, such as vehicle utilization, trip numbers, and customer satisfaction, are being tracked to evaluate the project’s success. These metrics help identify areas for improvement, ensuring that the service continually adapts to the needs of users.

Customer satisfaction surveys, vehicle availability, and the percentage of trips connected to public transportation are among the factors used to assess how effectively the HUBs are meeting their goals. This data-driven approach helps maintain a high level of service and ensures that the HUBs provide a seamless transport experience for users.

Looking Forward: Building on Success

The introduction of mobility HUBs in Greater Copenhagen represents a pivotal moment in the shift towards sustainable transportation. By providing accessible and integrated shared mobility options, the project not only enhances local transportation but also contributes to Rudersdal’s broader climate goals. As the HUBs continue to evolve and expand, the lessons learned and performance data will help refine the service, ensuring that it meets the needs of Rudersdal while reducing the reliance on private car ownership.

This pilot serves as an inspiring model for other pre-urban areasaiming to reduce their car dependency and improve the efficiency of urban transport systems. As Rudersdal demonstrates, with thoughtful designing, stakeholder involvement, and continuous monitoring, it will be evaluated if it is possible to make shared mobility a viable and attractive alternative to car ownership in Greater Copenhagen.
