Optimizing Mobility at Allianz Arena: GEMINI – MLL3 Munich’s Fan Traffic Survey 2560 1707 Gemini

The goal of GEMINI – MLL3 Munich is to enhance mobility and traffic management during football games at the Allianz Arena. For this reason, from July 16th to 30th, FC Bayern Munich fans had the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive survey designed by Volkswagen Data Lab and FC Bayern as part of the GEMINI project and MLL3 activities. The survey was accessible via the FC Bayern and Allianz Arena websites and was designed to collect essential information on attendees’ travel habits, preferences, and experiences.

The survey included various questions about fan mobility with the primary objectives to:

  • Explore travel experiences: including typical arrival and departure times, satisfaction levels, and factors influencing transport choices. This part of the survey also assessed the willingness of attendees to adjust their travel times to avoid congestion.
  • Gather data on game attendance: the survey collected information on how frequently fans attend games, their geographical origins, travel starting points, and modes of transport used.
  • Measure satisfaction levels: regarding travel to and from the stadium, which provides valuable insights into attendee priorities and areas for improvement in transportation services.
  • Investigate public transport and cycling preferences: including reasons for choosing public transport and preferred bicycle parking options, to improve facilities and encourage their use.
  • Collect demographic information: gender, age, education, profession, and income—to ensure a representative sample and understand how different demographics influence travel choices.

By collecting and analyzing respondents’ data, the survey will empower MLL3 partners to develop targeted solutions that not only meet the specific needs and preferences of football fans but also enhance overall traffic and transport conditions in the area during game days. These insights will allow for the creation of strategies that alleviate congestion, streamline access to public transportation, and optimize parking facilities, resulting in a more efficient and enjoyable experience for fans and the local community.Ultimately, the survey’s findings will guide the implementation of measures that not only improve mobility on match days but also contribute to the long-term sustainability and safety of the area’s transport infrastructure.
